Juniper Books on Amazon.com

Posted on 19. Sep, 2012 by in Blog, Press and News

While some folks in the book buying world are not fans of the online retailing giant, I have long appreciated the convenience and value proposition Amazon provides.  As a general principal, I also believe that the more books there are in the world, the better – if you buy the books from Juniper Books, or your local bookstore or Amazon, or check them out of the library, or read on your iPad – it’s all good.  Reading and being surrounded by books is a net positive no matter how you get there.

I still spend a fortune with my local bookstores and buying books from dealers around the world, however there are some things that you can only get on short notice on Amazon or they clearly offer the best deal.  Recognizing that many book buyers are loyal Amazon.com customers and that they would prefer to buy from a large retailer, we have started listing some of our book sets and you can link directly to them through the links below.

Easton Press Biographies

Posted on 29. Aug, 2011 by in Blog, Book Styles

This page features various Biographies published by Easton Press ranging from political figures to entertainment celebrities and more.  These are unsigned editions.  To view our signed Easton Press books, which include many biographies and autobiographies, click here.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Among our many specialties, Juniper Books is one of the largest buyers and sellers of fine leather-bound books from publishers like Easton Press and Franklin Press in the world.  We buy and sell nearly all of these beautiful leather bound volumes privately, so it is best to communicate with us directly about selling your collection or buying these books from us.  Our inventory changes rapidly yet we keep “want lists” for customers and we have helped our clients build their collections over years.

Modern leather-bound books make marvelous gifts and we have more experience than anyone in assisting our clients with selection and sourcing; from a single book to a curated collection of thousands. And, as these books are collectibles that appreciate in value over time, we are also very experienced in evaluating and appraising these volumes and we quite often advise clients on appropriate prices to pay for these books as many times they are overpriced in certain venues.

NB: We are posting this page as sort of a visual bibliography. Please ask for permission before using our photos for any commercial purposes, thank you.

First Edition Library Books

Posted on 29. Apr, 2011 by in Blog, Ideas and Advice

The First Edition Library (FEL) is a series of exact facsimile replicas of the first editions of famous books.  We love these books because of how accurately they honor the details of many famous 19th and 20th century books.

First Edition Library Facsimile Books

First Edition Library Facsimile Books

The true first editions of most of these books cost several thousand dollars, whereas the FEL books can usually be purchased for less than $100.   Thus, they are wonderful ways to own an attractive copy of a favorite author or to own a collection of literary classics.  Thatcher has many of these in his own collection.

Loving the Penguin

Posted on 10. Mar, 2011 by in Blog, Book Resources

Penguin Hardcover Decorative Classics Set of 15

Penguin Hardcover Decorative Classics Set of 15

I like books old and new, as they are and modified in interesting ways.  Unfortunately there aren’t too many publishers doing things that I would consider exciting or interesting these days with regards to the physical design of their books.  The exceptions to this are publishers like Taschen who consistently publishes books that are eye-catching and fun to behold.  I would also put Penguin in this category – for many decades they have been putting out books that are simple, yet elegant and their current line of classics designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith is no exception.  The latest release in this series is Tales from the 1,001 Nights (Arabian Nights)  in a striking blue and black design.

As far as we know, we are the only booksellers who sell the complete or partial sets of of these Penguin decorative classics in groups.  It makes perfect sense to us since we build book collections that customers would want to buy these more than one at a time!  Please e-mail sales@juniperbooks.com or call 303-946-1494 to place an order.  No, we do not have the elusive Madame Bovary or Crime and Punishment editions – sorry!

Custom Book Collections Built One Book at a Time

Posted on 03. Jan, 2011 by in Blog, Recent Projects

When I turned my book collecting hobby into a bookselling business years ago, I started with rare and unusual books, bought one at a time, and sold one at a time.  My niche of building complete book collections and decorative libraries came a few years later after I already had a lot of experience and expertise buying books, identifying first editions, and selling to collectors and institutions. These days, I still help a lot of clients build book collections one book at a time and the fundamental knowledge I have about authors, books, subjects, sources for books, etc. comes in very handy helping with these projects.

I recently added a few new pages to the website and some photos of recent projects.  Good photos of past projects aren’t all available, but I will be adding more photos in the future as I build additional book collections.

Literary classics, in the broad definition, is probably the most requested type of book collection for a home library.  Authors like Mark Twain and Jane Austen are timeless and nice to own in a hardcover or leather bound edition.  Given my familiarity with authors, I can assemble collections of literary classics that appeal to any customer and if favorite authors are requested, I can easily extrapolate to other authors that might be of interest.

Handpicked Literary Classics

Handpicked Literary Classics

Literary classics in modern leather bindings, such as those published by Easton Press, are also very popular and decorative.

Modern Leather Literary Classics

Modern Leather Literary Classics

We handle a lot of antique leather books.  One of the differences in our overall approach to leather books is that we pay attention to both how the books look AND their content / titles. We also specialize in primarily all English language antique leather books.  For clients interested in a purely decorative antique leather library, we can deliver that at a very economical price.  For clients interested in building libraries of complete sets of particular authors we can assemble those as well.

Complete Works of George Eliot Leather

Leather Bound George Eliot

On the higher and more specialized end of book collecting are collections of First Editions we obtain for clients.  These range from a single book we might help a customer obtain for a gift, to finding collectible copies of rare and/or signed first editions for clients over time.  Recent requests have included first editions of Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, P.G. Wodehouse, Larry McMurtry, Will James, Frank Dobie, and others.

Agatha Christie and PG Wodehouse First Editions

As we are based in Boulder, Colorado and have a lot of clients in the West – we buy and sell a lot of books about the West – Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, etc.  We have several clients who we have worked with over years to build their collections one book at a time.  We also have clients who we have furnished entire libraries of hundreds of volumes of Western Americana at one time.

Western Americana Library

Western Americana Library

A somewhat related field is that of mountaineering books.  Given our base in Boulder, CO and our frequent work in the mountain communities, we see a lot of books about the mountains, rock climbing, skiing, and other related subjects and we find good homes for them!

Mountaineering Books

Mountaineering Books

We have built libraries for clients all over the world including yachts in the Mediterranean, homes in Italy and Switzerland, beach houses in California, South Carolina, Florida and New Jersey, beautiful homes in Arizona, Oregon, Connecticut, Indiana, Illinios, New York, etc. . . . One thing many of these clients have in common is that they have requested some books about the regional history of the areas where the homes are located.  We enjoy finding these books and having the homeowners and their guests delight in the discovery of learning local history.

New Mexico Book Collection

New Mexico Book Collection

Another popular request we receive is for children’s books, usually as part of larger collections.   We have recently assembled childrens’ books including complete sets of Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Harry Pottery, Laura Ingalls Wilder, NC Wyeth illustrated classics, kids editions of Mark Twain, Jack London, Robert Louis Stevenson and others.

Childrens Classics

We would be happy to discuss any project idea you have involving a custom book collection.  It is not an exaggeration to say that we can find books about just about any subject that you are interested in . . .
