Historical Documents Book Set

As with all of our book sets, our Historical Documents set is all about the content and the design! We’ve brought together three books that feature contemporary writings from the founding years of the United States. Then, we’ve wrapped them in covers with our own design of an early Colonial flag overlaid with text and signatures from the Declaration of Independence.

Reading the primary materials that inspired and shaped the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution is more important now than ever. Thomas Paine’s best-known works—Common Sense, The American Crisis, Rights of Man, and The Age of Reason—are included in the first volume. “I know not whether any man in the world,” wrote John Adams in 1805, “has had more influence on its inhabitants or affairs for the last thirty years than Tom Paine.”

The other two books gather hundreds of original texts by Franklin, Madison, Jefferson, Washington, Patrick Henry, and many others. The documents include the Federalist Papers by Madison and Hamilton in their original dramatic context, the case against the new constitution by Virginian George Mason, and the crucial compromise forged by John Hancock and Samuel Adams.

The set also includes complete texts of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and Constitution (with all amendments), detailed biographical profiles of all authors, informative notes, and a full historical chronology.

All books are heirloom-quality hardcovers published by The Library of America.
